Dental fillings

Everyone is susceptible to dental decay but it is preventable with a good home care regimen and healthy diet. Once you have cavities, it is an active disease that needs to be treated by us. When our teeth are exposed to acid which is a byproduct of bacterial fermentation, it eventually forms a small hole (cavity). As it progresses, it further collects more bacteria and weakens the tooth leading to pain and tooth loss if not treated early. Places for cavities are the crown, root, and under compromised existing fillings. We remove the affected area of the tooth and we restore them back to its original shape and function with various materials. Most common material used to restore is resin (tooth color), amalgam (silver color), gold, and porcelain. Ask us about when we use each material and their pros and cons.

Crown and Bridge

When teeth have extensive decay, broken or damaged, or already have been heavily restored, sometimes we can use crowns and bridges to preserve your natural tooth, prevent further damage and tooth loss, and more extensive and costly dental work. Your dentist at Deptford will prepare the tooth and take an impression for our laboratory to fabricate a custom fitted crown that will restore the look and function of your natural tooth.

Veneer

If you have always been dissatisfied with the shape and discoloration of your teeth or have fillings that are showing their age, these can be masked by dental veneers. Veneers are lab fabricated thin shells of porcelain that are permanently bonded to the surfaces of teeth. These natural looking restorations are resistant to permanent discoloration and will give you a full healthy looking smile.

Root Canal

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that has large decay extended into the nerve or that has become infected. During the procedure, nerve and pulp is removed, the inside of the tooth is cleaned and disinfected and filled with biocompatible material.

Extraction

At times, it may be necessary to remove a tooth due to extensive decay, fracture, severe bone loss, infection, baby teeth, or for orthodontic treatment. Our dentists at Deptford Dental Care can do it effectively and painlessly.

Once a tooth is removed, it may be beneficial to replace the tooth to prevent shifting of adjacent teeth, and maintain proper function chewing.

Dentures

There are two types of dentures, full and partial. Full dentures are used to replace teeth and restore the function of chewing when all natural teeth are removed. Partial dentures are used when multiple but not all your teeth are missing; it uses our remaining natural teeth for stability and retention. When you get dentures or if you already have dentures, annual assessments are still very important. No matter how high a denture’s quality, as our jaw bone remodels over time and continuously recede, dentures may become loose. Annual visit is advised so we can check soft tissue, clean your dentures and inspect your dentures as well as the supporting teeth for partials.
